What Inspired You To Become A Plastic Surgeon?I was inspired to become a plastic surgeon for multiple reasons. I have known I wanted to be a doctor ever since I can remember. In medical school, I discovered a love of surgery first. As I began to explore I was drawn to the artistic nature of plastic surgery, the attention to detail that our specialty expects, and a practice dominated by well patients and patients that are primarily female.What Would Your Message Be To Other Women Seeking To Pursue A Career As A Plastic Surgeon?Plastic surgery continues to be dominated by male surgeons but the domination is slowly decreasing. Patients are overwhelmingly female. As a female surgeon, there are ways to connect with your patients on a personal level. Also, plastic surgeons have a relatively controlled schedule and very few emergencies allowing a better work/life balance than some other surgical specialties.

What Are Some Of The Newer Non-Surgical Treatments At AYA That You Are Most Excited About?

One thing I truly love about the aesthetic spa business is the rapidly expanding and advancing treatments. This was barely even a business when I was in my training only a little over 20 years ago. We are finding ways to combine treatments we have been doing for a while that are offering increased benefits and less downtime. Aveli is an exciting new treatment for cellulite, which offers a solution that is permanent and very helpful for certain patients. We are using exosomes, which are cellular messengers, which can improve healing and encourage hair growth. There is a new longer acting version of Botox called Daxxify. There are always advances being made. At AYA, we thoroughly investigate and then evaluate any new product or procedure before offering it to our patients. We always try to stay at the forefront of promising new technology.

What Is Your Personal Favorite Treatment To Have Done?

It is almost impossible to pick my favorite procedure. Everything works together for the best results. The daily skincare routine is imperative to maximize any result. If I only had to pick one treatment (other than daily skincare) I would pick Halo™ by Sciton® Laser Resurfacing.

What Is A Common Misconception About Aesthetic Treatments?

Probably the most common misconception about aesthetic treatments is that it could be “one and done”. First of all, for any treatment, a good daily skincare regimen before and after will maximize results. Secondly, as soon as the treatment is over. the typical assaults come back. Gravity, air pollution, and especially the sun as well as aging pick right up where they left off. Great skin is all about maintenance and prevention. Following. a treatment schedule, using great products daily (including sunscreen and antioxidants), and doing all you can to stay out of the sun will result in the best skin possible.
