Micro-derm-a-what? AYA Medical Spa Explains the Components of Microdermabrasion

Sometimes coined as the “instant facelift,” minimally invasive microdermabrasion treatment targets those skin conditions that lie on the skin’s surface through light abrasion and exfoliation. The long name may sound slightly intimidating, but it means exactly what it suggests: light (micro) abrasion to the skin (dermis). Microdermabrasion treatment can minimize the appearance of scars, wrinkles, sun damage, acne, and hyperpigmentation. Before your microdermabrasion treatment at AYA, one of our licensed estheticians will perform a skin analysis to better identify the areas of your skin that need improvement most. Microderm is safe for all skin types and can be customized to meet each patient’s specific needs. During this skin treatment, small ground crystals are applied and massaged against the skin by the mircroderm wand’s roller-ball covered tip. You may notice a slight scratching sensation with the wand’s movement but this sensation is temporary and far from painful. We typically compare the sensation to that of a deep tissue massage. There is no downtime associated with this treatment, but the treatment enhances the circulation of the area which may cause redness for a short time afterward. Patients who need a more aggressive procedure may notice redness that lasts up to one day.
At AYA Medical Spa, we offer Diamondtome™ and MegaPeel® Platinum microdermabrasion treatments. The Diamondtome™ wand uses the power of natural diamond exfoliating chips with a vacuum suction that removes the dead skin cells. Similarly, the MegaPeel® Platinum uses crystals to exfoliate. The MegaPeel® also comes equipped with a vacuuming feature and can adjust to meet each patient’s skin type.Besides microdermabrasion, AYA offers a wide range of other services for facial rejuvenation. For instance, chemical peels use a similar idea as microdermabrasion, except a chemical solution is used instead to dissolve the damaged outer layers of skin. If you’re concerned with acne, our eMax™ acne laser treatment can be used along with microdermabrasion or chemical peels to help treat acne-causing bacteria. We also offer fractional skin resurfacing and laser treatments to manage spots and wrinkles. Other comparable services include cosmetic injectables that reduce the appearance of wrinkles, like Botox®, Radiesse®, Juvéderm®, and Sculptra®.For more information on microdermabrasion, facial rejuvenation treatments, or other services we offer, visit our website.
